- What this Policy Covers
This Cookie Policy sets out:
- what a cookie is (paragraph 2);
- an overview of the categories of cookies we use (paragraph 3);
- what you can do if you do not agree to the cookie use (paragraph 4);
- concluding remarks (paragraph 5); and
- a description of each category of cookie we use alongside a list of relevant cookies per category (Annex 1).
If you have already indicated your cookie preferences in relation to this ChinChin website and / or ChinChin app (collectively referred to as the “Platform”), you should still read this Cookie Policy to ensure you understand how we use cookies.
- What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of data (text file) that a website – when visited by a user – asks your browser to store on your device in order to remember information about you, such as your language preference or login information. Similar tracking techniques, such as pixels, GIFs and web beacons, may also be used.
Techniques, similar to cookies, are used in so-called ‘mobile software development kits’ or ‘mobile SDKs’ commonly used for the development of native mobile apps. A mobile SDK is a software package that contains a set of tools that can help to build platform-specific mobile applications and implement new features in existing mobile apps, such as our Platform. Mobile SDKs function like pixels and cookies but operate in the mobile app context where pixels and cookies cannot always function.
For the sake of consistency, all these techniques are referred to in this Cookie Policy as “cookies”.
Cookies which are set by us are called first-party cookies. We also use third-party cookies – which are cookies from a domain different than the domain of the website you are visiting (e.g. Facebook or YouTube) – principally for our advertising and marketing efforts. For example, we may ‘match’ advertising cookies collected about you on our Platform with your profile on a Social Media Platform, so that we can show you marketing content which we think will be of interest to you. These third-parties may use cookies for their own purposes and we have no influence over their use of your data. For more information regarding the cookies set by social media networks, please refer to their own privacy and cookie policies. Even if no advertising or social media cookies are used, please note that you may still be provided with advertisements on our Platform; however, these advertisements will not be tailored to your interests.
Sometimes a cookie ID or the information a cookie collects can be considered personal data. Our Privacy Policy sets out full details of the personal data we may collect and how we may use your personal information.
Outside of the Platform, we also use technologies (with your consent) to track email engagement data (i.e. opens and clicks to understand when an email is opened, how many times it is opened, what device or devices are involved and a rough physical location of the relevant device, deduced from the internet protocol (IP) address). Based on this information, we will adapt our marketing campaigns and communications to ensure our emails are relevant and of interest to you.
- Cookies used on the Platform
We use “strictly necessary cookies” to operate the Platform (these cookies are set by default). We’d also like to set optional cookies for analytical and marketing purposes. In relation to the ChinChin website, some of these are session cookies that are temporary and allow us to link your actions during a browser session. Session cookies are erased when you close the browser. Other cookies on the ChinChin website are persistent cookies, which remain on your device for a longer period of time. In relation to the ChinChin app, all cookies (SDKs) are persistent and do not expire. Annex 1 provides a more detailed description of each cookie we use on the Platform (depending on whether you are using the ChinChin website or the ChinChin app), alongside a list of relevant cookies per category and, in respect of the ChinChin website, their persistency.
By clicking ‘Accept’ on the Platform’s cookie banner, you give your consent to us placing and, in the case of third-party cookies, reading, all of the cookies set out in Annex 1.
- Control your cookie settings
You have the option to consent to our use of the different categories of cookies set out in Annex 1 by clicking ‘Set Preferences’ in the cookie banner that is presented to you when you first visit our Platform. You can change your cookie preferences at any time by navigating to the Preference Centre within the Platform – which also enables you to withdraw the consent you have previously given to us.
Besides using the ‘Set Preferences’ hyperlink on our Platform, you can manage your cookie settings in your browser at any time. Please be aware that your browser settings may not offer you the same ease of use as the cookie preferences centre on our Platform. If you simply disable all cookies in your browser’s settings, you may find that certain sections or features of our Platform will not work, because your browser may prevent us from setting strictly necessary cookies. The following links may assist you in managing your cookies settings, or you can use the ‘Help’ option in your internet browser for more details.
